Use Non-Intrusive Temperature Sensors:

The Challenge

Temperature measurement in pipelines and pressure vessels is often essential for process control. Tracking temperature fluctuations and maximum temperature levels is assures structural safety and operational efficiency. Unfortunately, most conventional temperature gages require an opening into the vessel or pipeline so that replacement of the sensor during operations is not possible. Also, since most temperature sensors are electrical-based devices, they can pose a hazard when employed in flammable environments.

Is there a temperature sensing system that can be applied to the exterior of a pipe or vessel that is non-intrusive, requiring no drilling of holes or mechanical attachments? Is this system non-electrical and reliable? Can the sensors be applied to any accessible area where direct temperature measurements are required? Can these sensors operate at elevated temperature?

The Solution

FOX-TEK offers fiber optic sensor systems that measure pipe or temperature vessel temperatures with high accuracy. The sensors are ideal for operation in flammable environments or in close proximity to electrical equipment because they are passive, non-electrical and immune to electromagnetic interference (EMI). They operate continuously at temperatures as high as 300°C and provide an absolute temperature measurement without the need for a calibration. FT sensors are available in a variety of configurations, and because of their flexibility, are easily bonded to structures of complex curvature. Remote, continuous monitoring or periodic on-site measuring systems are options available to the user with FOX-TEK FT sensor monitors.
